Tanzania, Part 3: Gibbs’ Farm to the Ngorongoro Crater

Three Uses for a Robins’ Nest

In May of this year, some robins built this nest and raised their brood in the river birch tree outside my upstairs window. In August, a mourning dove appropriated the empty nest to hatch her eggs. Now, a lone walnut rests in the somewhat weatherbeaten nest:  a squirrel’s cache of winter food.

Stopping by Shakertown

On my way home this afternoon, I stopped by Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, in Mercer County, Kentucky. Always a pleasant stop in October. The shaggy bovine was my first greeter.
