Let us make an honourable retreat; though not with bag and baggage, but with scrip and scrippage.–Shakespeare, As You Like It
My friend Kate and I have started a new blog called Scrippage. It’s an exchange of letters about country life, surviving bad news, surviving generally, getting around in trucks, taking care of horses, and whatever else may evolve as we continue writing.
“Scrippage” is light baggage; the contents of a small case; all of one’s few belongings. We liked the name, though belatedly, I wished we’d stumbled upon “Screeve” first (drawing on sidewalks with colored chalks; perhaps I’m feeling regressive).
Kate and I met when we were twelve. Our paths diverged after high school graduation, but our letters kept us connected and encouraged.
In more recent years, we’ve been too busy to write letters, but now we’ve resumed the practice, as a discipline and an exploration.
You’re welcome to join us. You’ll like Kate’s prose in the “Dear Lily” letters. We’re both English majors, but she has always been the smart one.
I’ll still be writing this blog, as well. I’ll just have to type faster.
